Batay La Film Screening

Join One Struggle in Tallahassee, FL for two events!

In 2012, One Struggle traveled to Haiti to meet with textile workers organized with Batay Ouvriye (Workers’ Struggle), an independent organization known throughout Haiti as a fierce, uncompromising movement dedicated to reconstructing Haiti in the interests of workers, peasants, and the poor.

Following the trip OS set up the Rapid Response Network  (RRN) to lend international solidarity to their struggles, and we continue to learn from BO’s efforts.

Batay La, a 25-minute documentary, was born out director Malia Bruker’s participation in RRN campaigns.

Batay Ouvriye workers say, “We will not stop until our last breath,” and Batay La inspires its viewers to do the same, not just in support of their struggle, but to fight the forces of fascism and imperialism in our own backyards.

  • Saturday, November 23 – Batay La Screening followed by a panel discussion with director, Malia Bruker; producer and OS organizer, Sarah Cruz; and a revolutionary Haitian organizer. Jan Sebon of Kazaak International performs Haitian roots music to open and close the event.
  • Sunday, November 24 – Resisting Imperialism. We’ll talk about the current political situation in Haiti, what imperialism is, and why it matters for building an independent social movement in the US. Jan Sebon performs again!
